Thoughts on hiking mountains
Walking 20 km with the boys in nature
Doing something very hard with the boys might be one of the most gratifying things you will ever do.
And hiking is the best activity to start on.
It’s easy because today you have apps and digital maps, no need to worry about getting yourselves lost
Being honest, it’s brutal for beginners, the next day your joints and muscles will be begging for help.
And during the hike you and your friends will question whose idea was of reaching the top of some mountain, besides the constant burning in your legs and lower back.
But I promise you: when you end, your faces will be of joy and accomplishment, not regret
Pushing that one friend who struggles the most on steep climbs
Motivating the friend who has pain in his feet
Carrying a lot of water in the backpack, making sure everyone is hydrated
Having hours to talk about the most interesting subjects with the boys
Reaching places almost untouched by human hands and enjoying the view, no screens, no distractions
No one around to stop you from doing man stuff like throwing rocks and climbing boulders
Enjoying God’s creation and spotting wild life
Choose a mountain close to your home and go, convince the boys to go with you
Most tracks have some kind of criteria from easy to hard in terms of difficulty. Go for medium since probably you are beginners but also don’t want the easy stuff. And don’t go for more than 20-25 km, that is already very hard for someone who never hiked in nature before.
I wrote this post because of the primal feeling hiking can bring you. I felt extremely good doing it. We are no longer doing expeditions, carrying drinkable water or going for a hunt in modern society. I think this way you can STILL reap the benefits and satisfaction of those activities.
